Sorsogon sizzles with 50°C heat index

Heat index pertains to the “apparent heat” that humans perceive. Heat indices between 42-51°C are under the “danger” threshold as these could cause heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke with continued sun exposure. PAGASA said the 50°C heat index in Juban, Sorsogon was recorded at 3 p.m. Apart from Sorsogon, six other areas in the Philippines logged a dangerous heat on Saturday. These include Borongan, Eastern Samar (44°C); Dagupan City, Pangasinan (43°C); Iba, Zambales (43°C); Legazpi City, Albay (42°C); NAIA Pasay City, Metro Manila (42°C); and Sinait, Ilocos Sur (42°C). This year's highest heat index so far was experienced in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro at 53°C.
