Quezon solon confident of forming team for PSL from D2 tournament
LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Quezon Rep. David “Jayjay” C. Suarez is confident that he can form a basketball team representing the province in the Pilipinas Super League (PSL) from players in the upcoming District 2 (D2) Super Cup Invitational Tournament.
SUAREZ (FB) “From here, it is seen that Quezon can form its own team in the Pilipinas Super League,” he said. “Dito mag-uumpisa ang pagbuo ng team para maka-participate ang Quezon sa liga na ginagawa ng PSL (The formation of a team for the PSL starts from this tournament). Mahalaga po sa amin ito dahil (It is important to us because) I’ve always believed that we need to develop the homegrown talent of every municipality, province, and locality dito sa atin bansa,” Suarez added. “We’re hoping we can strengthen our partnership through this tournament. This is also our way of telling the world that the second district is now open for further development,” Suarez said. Suarez also hopes that the D2 Super Cup will be an avenue for homegrown basketball players to show their skills in the sport that many Filipinos love. The D2 Super Cup, which features teams from the second district composed of this city and the towns of Sariaya, Candelaria, Tiaong, Dolores, and San Antonio, has two divisions, the 18-under and 21-under. Champions in these two divisions will win P100,000 each. The first runner-up receives P70,000; second runner-up, P50,000, and third runner-up, P30,000. The D2 Super Cup is presented by Suarez, Tiaong, Quezon Mayor Vincent Arjay Mea, and Alona party-list Rep. Anna V. Suarez in cooperation with PSL. The tournament which starts on June 2 will be played at Tiaong Convention Center, Sariaya Sports Center, Candelaria Municipal Gymnasium, and San Antonio Multi-purpose Sports Center.
