Manila placed under blue alert status in preparation for typhoon 'Betty'

The City of Manila was placed under blue alert on Friday, May 26, to prepare for possible strong winds and heavy rains brought by typhoon "Betty” (international name Mawar). According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), cities under blue alert can cause minimal to minor threats to life and property damage to houses. PAGASA reported that typhoon Betty may develop into a super typhoon within the next 24 to 48 hours. It can also knock down small trees and cause minimal disruption to public transportation. Under the status level, the rescuers and the equipment needed will be prepared to assist and help residents. As of this writing, gutter-deep floods were reported on Recto Ave, Remigio St., Mayhaligue St., Natividad Lopez St., Antonio Villegas St., Padre Faura, Bambang St., and vicinity of the Manila City Hall. The public is encouraged to be alert and stay posted on typhoon updates. Motorists are also advised to observe road safety. (Richielyn Canlas)
