51 kilos of assorted fruits, meat intercepted at NAIA

Customs and agriculture officials at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) confiscated a total of 51 kilos of assorted fruits and processed meat from incoming foreign passengers on Thursday, May 25. (Photo courtesy of Bureau of Customs / NAIA) Quarantine officials first seized 46.5 kilos of assorted fruits which were being brought in by a Vietnamese passenger through a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight. The variety of fruits confiscated consisted of 21.5 kilos of mangosteen, 20 kilos of pomelo, and six kilos of mangoes. Airport officials were also able to confiscate 4.5 kilos of processed meat from two Chinese nationals coming from Xiamen, China, and onboard a Xiamen Air flight. (Photo courtesy of Bureau of Customs / NAIA) The fruits and processed meat were confiscated after the passengers failed to produce the corresponding health and import documents from the port of origin, as well as clearance from the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) and Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI). Authorities reminded incoming passengers that they cannot bring in vegetables, fruits, meat and meat products into the Philippines without the required clearance from the necessary agencies, particularly the Department of Agriculture (DA).
