Lightning strikes kill 2 minors in Gen. Trias, Cavite

CAVITE – Two minors died in separate lightning strikes in General Trias City on Thursday, May 25.

A report from General Trias City Police Station (CPS) Chief Lt. Col. Jose Naparato Jr. indicated that the first incident took place in Barangay San Francisco, where two male victims were struck by lightning as they were standing by the roadside at around 4:00 p.m.

They were immediately brought to the hospital for medical treatment, but Edison Hachero, 16 years old, was declared dead on arrival.

The second victim, Jovic Gubat, sustained minor injury and was later discharged from the hospital.

A separate incident occurred in Barangay Pasong Camachile II, where three boys were flying a kite in an open field at around 5:00 p.m.

When the rain poured, the victims took shelter under a tree where they were struck by lightning.

Xian Prangan, 10 years old, was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the hospital.

John Carlo Mira, 9, was confined at the hospital, while Vince Angelo Angcaya, 8, was discharged and is continuing his treatment at home.

City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) Executive Assistant IV Fernando P. Olimpo told the Manila Bulletin that lightning and thunderstorms happen frequently in the area.
