Nolcom forces ready for super typhoon 'Mawar' – commander

CAMP AQUINO, Tarlac City – The Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom), together with the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) and the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), are getting ready for the possible impact that super typhoon “Mawar” may bring to Northern Luzon. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, Mawar is forecast to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday evening or on Saturday morning and move towards Northern Luzon. Mawar is expected to bring strong winds and a large amount of rainfall and would maintain its wind to a maximum of 175 kilometers per hour. The NDRRMC is set to declare red alert status on May 25 for the possible onslaught of the typhoon once it enters the PAR. Once inside PAR, it will be called “Betty.” All local DRRM councils were advised to revisit their respective contingency plans. They were directed to utilize all Early Warning Systems (EWS) such as Short Messaging Systems (SMS), social media platforms, and others to ensure a wider dissemination of weather updates and advisories. Lt. Gen.  Fernyl G. Buca, commander of the Northern Luzon Command, assured the public that Nolcom troops are in position for the onslaught of the typhoon. Nolcom is working hand-in-hand with the RDRRMC, OCD, and other agencies for the preparation of measures and contingency plans for the imminent threats of Mawar. It is also ready and on standby to extend assistance for disaster response and relief work.
