More than 8 million kids immunized vs measles, polio — DOH
Over eight million children have been vaccinated against measles and polio, the Department of Health (DOH) disclosed nearly a month after it launched its nationwide immunization drive against highly transmissive but preventable infectious diseases.
Based on the DOH’s latest breakdown of accomplishments, 6,750,475 children have been vaccinated against measles. This is equivalent to at least 69.56 percent of the eligible population for measles and rubella vaccines. The tally of children who were immunized against polio, on the other hand, has climbed to 2,024,747 or at least 62.72 of the DOH’s target. These figures when combined show a total of 8,775,222 children immunized under Chikiting Ligtas or the national rollout of DOH’s supplementary immunization activities against measles, rubella, and polio. DOH Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Maria Rosario Vergeire earlier urged Filipino parents and legal guardians to have their children inoculated against the aforementioned infectious diseases. “Nagbibigay tayo ngayon ng bakunahan kontra tigdas, rubella, at polio para sa mga kabataan na wala pang kahit anong bakuna o ‘di kaya may partial lamang na bakuna laban sa mga sakit na ito (We are now providing vaccinations against measles, rubella, and polio for children who have yet to be vaccinated or those who only have partial vaccines against these diseases),” said Vergeire. “Hinihikayat natin ang mga magulang na pabakunahan na ang ating kabataan. Join Chikiting Ligtas (We encourage parents to vaccinate our youth. Join Chikiting Ligtas),” she added. Chikiting Ligtas 2023 was launched on April 27. This month-long initiative will be conducted until May 31.
