Malabon City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval, together with Northern Police District Director (NPD) Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones, and Malabon City Police Station (MCPS) Chief Col. Almante Daro, conducted floodgate control inspections of the Malabon River and a few parts of Navotas on Thursday, May 25, in preparation for Typhoon Mawar (international name) and to be locally called “Betty.”

Sandoval and the NPD checked the current situation of the Tangos floodgate and other floodgates around Malabon and Navotas City which are connected to the Tullahan River, Navotas River, and directly to the seawater around the cities.

According to the City Mayor, if the floodgates are working properly they can help prevent flashfloods in certain areas.

"Kapag ito ay gumagana, hindi tayo babahain sa Bayan, sa City hall at sa Hulong-Duhat. Kasabay na rin niya ang floodgate sa Tanza at sa mga ibang floodgate (If the floodgates including the gate in Tanza are working properly, we will not experience flash floods in Bayan, at the City Hall, and Hulong- Duhat)," she said.

Malabon City is one of the flood-prone prone areas in Metro Manila.
