BFP National Capital Region (BFP-NCR) Director Chief Superintendent Nahum Tarroza hands over the plaque of recognition to Mayor Abby Binay
During a courtesy call on Wednesday, May 24, at the Makati City Hall. BFP National Capital Region (BFP-NCR) Director Chief Superintendent Nahum Tarroza personally handed over a plaque of recognition to Binay during the event also attended by Binay's husband and Makati 2nd District Rep. Luis Campos and other city government officials and BFP-NCR officials. "The formal communication centered on strengthening the partnership between BFP NCR and Local Government Unit of Makati. The Regional Director was delighted as Mayor Abby Binay showed support to the plans and programs of BFP-NCR to uphold fire safety in the home of her beloved Makatizens," the BFP said. Earlier, Binay turned over a number of firefighting equipment to the BFP which include one unit of Mobile Command Vehicle; one chemical fire truck; two rescue boats with one fire pump; 10 sets of mobile fire suppression gear consisting of motorcycles, protective helmets and portable foam compressors; and two extra foam compressors. Binay said the the Mobile Command Vehicle serves as a network of communication from post-disaster areas to the central Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Operations Center. Its features include a conference area with workspace to fit at least 12 persons, portable weather monitoring system, automated external defibrillator, video encoder surveillance hub which supports eight IP camera inputs with single channel, built-in 4G/LTE cellular modem and WiFi connectivity, body-worn cameras with GPS, and a laptop. The rescue boat can hold up to eight people during full speed emergency operations and up to 15 people during slower flood evacuation situations. With the addition of a fire pump, the boat becomes a firefighting boat that can help put out fires on or near waterways. The chemical fire truck is ideal for deployment to fire incidents in a highly combustible environment because of its AFFF (Aqueous Film-Forming Foam) chemical component, which allows for faster fire suppression. Mobile fire suppression gear can be easily mobilized especially to put out fires located in narrow streets in densely populated areas in the city. The city government has also provided the BFP with 50 sets of personnel protective gear which can protect firemen against harsh elements while responding to a disaster.
