DPWH prepositions personnel in would-be 'Mawar'-affected areas

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has deployed several teams in areas that would likely be affected by super typhoon “Mawar” in a bid to immediately respond to would-be adverse impacts of the weather disturbance.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said teams from their Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM)  were already placed on standby along national road sections in anticipation of the devastations that the weather disturbance could bring.

“Our Regional District Engineering Offices (DEOs) were instructed to shear trees and unclog drainage to clear the waterways to prevent road accidents that may happen when flooding occurs at the onset of the typhoon,” said Bonoan.

He said DRMMs team were also tasked to conduct a standard procedure to monitor and report the status of national roads and bridges.

“They are also entrusted with removing obstructions from national roadways, determining alternate routes to ensure uninterrupted delivery of goods and services, and offering temporary structures to restore mobility as needed,” said Bonoan.

“Mawar” will be named “Betty” once it entered the Philippine area of responsibility. Weather expert said the weather disturbance would likely enter the country’s territory on Friday, May 26. (Nicole Magmanlac)
