“Aside from local businesses, our farmers will benefit the most from this paved road which can easily transport farm products to the market,” said DPWH-13 (Caraga) Director Engr. Pol M. delos Santos.

In his progress report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, Delos Santos said that the Agusan del Norte District Engineering Office (DEO) under District Engineer (DE) Edmund V. Opinion paved the 1.3-kilometer gravel road connecting Barangay Mabini to Barangay Malingin.

“The Mabini-Malingin Road is now a two-lane concrete road with a width of 6.1 meters and one-meter shoulder on both sides,” De los Santos said. “This route used to be dusty during dry season and muddy during rainy season,” Delos Santos added.

Prior to construction, motorists avoided traveling to the area, particularly during rainy days, for fear that their tires will be stuck in deep mud, Delos Santos said. “The road condition also forced locals and farmers to travel by foot just to sell their agricultural products to market centers.”

With the completion of this project, Delos Santos said economic opportunities will further increase, especially in agriculture, which is the main source of income and commerce of residents living in the area.

“Providing an improved road where it matters most is a profound accomplishment, indicative of the agency’s mission and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s legacy of “comfortable lives for all Filipinos.’”

He added that more infrastructures projects are ongoing in different parts in the region under the current administration’s “Build, Build More” (BBM) program.

Among these are  the Butuan City-Agusan del Norte Logistical Highway and the East-West Lateral Road connecting Agusan del Sur and Agusan del Norte to Bukidnon and the Bilay-Dulag Section (Agusan Bridge) in Butuan City.
