Zubiri: Ex-senator Biazon in ICU recovering from 'bad case of pneumonia'
Former Senator Rodolfo Biazon is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) and is recovering from a “bad case of pneumonia.”
Senate President Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri announced this at the start of the Senate plenary session on Wednesday, May 24.
“If I may, may we also dedicate our prayer today to a distinguished colleague of ours, Senator Biazon, who is in the ICU trying to recover from a bad case of pneumonia,” Zubiri told colleagues during the opening of the 3 p.m. session.
Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, who was assigned to give the opening prayer, led members of the Upper Chamber in praying for the former lawmaker.
Biazon, 88, served as Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief of staff during then President Corazon “Cory” Aquino’s administration.
He was a member of the Senate during the ninth (9th) Congress from 1992 to 1995 and was elected again in 1998. He was also a member of the House of Representatives, serving as a representative of Muntinlupa from 2010 to 2016.
In 2021, the former military general voiced his concern over former President Rodrigo Duterte’s “confusing” approach to Chinese militarization of the West Philippine Sea, calling it “dangerous.”
