The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will meet on Thursday, May 25, with disaster management officials of the National Capital Region (NCR) to discuss preparations for the possible adverse effects of super typhoon “Mawar”. MMDA acting chairman Don Artes said the meeting is aimed at coming up with plans and strategies in order to ensure the safety of Metro Manila residents once “Mawar” enters the country’s area of responsibility. Once it entered the Philippine area of responsibility possibly on weekend, “Mawar” will be named Betty, the second typhoon to enter the country this year. While there is no forecast that says it will make a landfall in the Philippines, weather experts said it would trigger bad weather condition in most parts of the country. Artes said expected to attend are heads and representatives of Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC). “The agency will also show its various rescue equipment for possible dispatch during and after the typhoon,” said Artes. Also expected to attend are the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils of 17 LGUs of Metro Manila.
