Marcos assures Pinoys of safe cyberspace, digital transformation

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. assured Filipinos that the government is constantly undertaking measures to promote safe cyberspace amid the country's efforts for digital transformation.

Marcos said this following a sectoral meeting with officials from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) regarding its pending projects and cybersecurity concerns in Malacañang on Tuesday, May 23.
In a tweet, the President said he discussed the different initiatives for the country's digital transformation with the DICT, particularly having a faster internet connection.
"Tuloy-tuloy ang ating digital transformation at ang pagsiguro sa ligtas na cyberspace para sa taumbayan (We're continuing our digital transformation while we ensure a safe cyberspace for the people)!" he said.
"Binigyang-pansin natin sa miting kasama ang [DICT] ang National ICT Development Agenda na layuning makapagbigay ng libre at mabilis na internet sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng bansa (During the meeting with the DICT, we emphasized on the National ICT Development Agenda that aims to provide free and fast internet in different parts of the country)," he added.
In addition, President Marcos said they discussed the progress of the e-Gov services and the country's different achievements in the field of ICT.
Included in the government's e-Government Priority Projects include:
- Centralizing government cloud services
- e-Report, for citizens' feedback and complaints
- e-Gov App, which will integrate all government services into one platform
The e-Gov Super App is set to be launched early next month. It ensures the digitalization of government systems in the Philippines, including local government units (LGUs).
Aside from the e-Government Priority Projects, DICT's Priority Initiatives include:
- Broadband ng Masa
- National Broadband Plan (NBP)
- Free Public Internet Access Program
- National Government Data Center (NGDC)
- Enhancing ICT competency through upskilling and reskilling
In 2022, the Philippines ranked 71st out of 131 economies in the global Network Readiness Index, a significant jump from the 85th ranking in 2021 due to good performance on e-commerce legislation, high-tech exports, and ICT services exports.
