The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Kang Juchun, managed to breach the facility's security by scaling a 20-foot fence topped with barbed wire around 2 a.m. last Sunday, May 21, according to BI.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco revealed that Kang was initially apprehended by immigration officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on February 10 upon his arrival from Bangkok, Thailand.
The bureau said it was later discovered that Kang had an active Interpol red notice against him for charges related to murder. Following his arrest, Kang was transferred to the BI's facility in Taguig where he awaited deportation.

According to reports, Kang exploited a blind spot in the detention center's closed-circuit television system to climb the fence and make his way onto a nearby road.
Tansingco reassured the public that the BI is collaborating closely with local law enforcement agencies in a joint effort to swiftly locate and apprehend the fugitive.
"This breach of our facility's security is a serious matter, and we have launched a thorough investigation to identify the shortcomings that allowed this incident to occur. Furthermore, we are implementing necessary measures to prevent similar events from happening in the future," Tansingco said.
The Department of Justice and the Korean Embassy have been duly informed about the escape incident.
Tansingco emphasized that immediate steps have been taken to enhance the facility's security, including increasing the height of the perimeter fence and installing an additional watchtower.
