Metro Manila's Covid-19 cases may have already 'peaked', says OCTA
The lower positivity rate over the past week suggests that Covid-19 cases in Metro Manila may have already peaked, according to the latest monitoring of the OCTA Research.
OCTA fellow Dr. Guido David said the Covid-19 positivity rate in Metro Manila has dropped from 26.1 percent on May 14 to 25.2 percent on May 21.
“It looks like the trend has peaked,” he said in a social media update on Monday night, May 22.

Moreover, David said that Metro Manila’s hospital occupancy for Covid-19 patients also decreased from 29.7 percent on May 14 to 28.8 percent on May 21. Positivity rate refers to the number of individuals who yielded positive results from among those who have been tested for Covid-19. The World Health Organization has set a benchmark of 5 percent for the positivity rate. Citing data from the Department of Health, David said there were 1,637 new Covid-19 cases across the country on May 22, 612 of which were recorded in Metro Manila. David projected that the country may record 900 to 1,000 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, May 23. He said the country’s current positivity rate is 23.9 percent, down from 24.1 percent on May 21.
