The Department of Agriculture (DA) announced that a P16-million facility in San Lorenzo town is going to be constructed after a recent groundbreaking ceremony.

The shared processing facility (SPF) that stands in a 688-square-meter facility is for the production of white copra and refined, bleached, and deodorized oil (RBDO), and other essential components of the coconut industry. Among the agencies that implement the project are the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PHilMech), two attached agencies of the DA. It is also in partnership with the Guimaras provincial government and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). The program seeks to expedite the delivery of these benefits, increase the income of coconut farmers, alleviate poverty, and promote social equality. “This would substantially benefit coconut farmers and adhere to legal requirements,” said PHilMech Director Dionisio Alvindia. The project is also in line with the agenda of Governor JC Rahman Nava to build an agri-fishery industrial village in San Lorenzo.
