Casiguran sizzles with 48°C heat index

Casiguran, Aurora topped the list of places with the highest daily heat index observed on Tuesday, May 23, based on the monitoring of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). On Tuesday, the highest heat index, or temperature as perceived by the human body, has reached 48 degrees Celsius (°C) in Casiguran, Aurora. PAGASA said a heat index ranging from 42°C to 51°C indicates impending “danger,” as “heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely,” and “heat stroke is probable with continued activity.” (PAGASA)
Apart from Casiguran, 27 other areas have recorded “dangerous” heat indices on Tuesday. They were as follows: Legazpi City, Albay (47°C) Masbate City, Masbate (47°C) Guiuan, Eastern Samar (46°C) Davao City, Davao del Sur (45°C) Alabat, Quezon (44°C) Baler, Aurora (44°C) Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro (44°C) Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte (44°C) Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (44°C) Virac, Catanduanes (44°C) Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas (43°C) Aparri, Cagayan (43°C) Borongan, Eastern Samar (43°C) Daet, Camarines Norte (43°C) Dagupan City, Pangasinan (43°C) Juban, Sorsogon (43°C) Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Pasay City (43°C) Roxas City, Capiz (43°C) San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (43°C) Surigao City, Surigao del Norte (43°C) Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (43°C) Catarman, Northern Samar (42°C) Central Luzon State University, Muñoz, Nueva Ecija (42°C) Infanta, Quezon (42°C) Mactan International Airport, Cebu (42°C) Sangley Point, Cavite (42°C) Tacloban City, Leyte (42°C) PAGASA recorded the highest heat index in the country so far this year on May 12 in Legazpi City, Albay at 50°C.
