CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela -- This year’s Mammangi Festival here will be the grandest.
The assurance was made by no less than City Mayor Josemarie L. Diaz who also said he wanted this festival to be known nationwide like the Ati-atihan, Maskara and other noted festivals in the country.
"We will set this Mammangi Festival as the grandest festival we ever have in our city in recognition of the industrious Ilagueno corn farmers,” said Mayor Diaz.
“We look forward in the future that this Mammangi Festival will be lined-up with other festivals in our country," added Mayor Diaz.
Mammangi (corn farmers) festival is set May 24 to May 31.
The festival is meant to recognize the corn farmers’ valuable contribution in the city, and probably nationwide. City of Ilagan is the Corn Capital of the Philippines.
According to city information officer Paul Bacungan, the festival will be highlighted by the following activities: Offroad 4x4 challenge featuring drivers from Manila, Nueva Ecija, and other towns in North Luzon; Motocross competition; Search for Binibining Ilagan (where 20 candidates are participating); Search for most outstanding Ilaguenos, Search for outstanding barangays; Streetdance and showdown competition of eight participating teams from the different schools of Ilagan; Eco-tourism booth of different gov’t agencies and Mammangi Village local entrepreneurs and other towns; and Launching of the Liveable City 2030 concept.
