'Unregistered' food products pose safety threat, FDA warns
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday, Oct. 17 issued a warning to the public regarding the purchase and use of 20 unregistered food products that have not undergone its evaluation process.
Unregistered food products that are “not considered safe” as per the FDA, include "Lee Super Plaza Preserved Condol,” “Oriental Kaong Preserve Palm Tree Fruit Green,” and “Tala’s Spices Atbp. Pasas (Raisin),” “Criselda’s Food Products Dried Fish Boneless Anchovies,” “AK Enterprises Dried Labahita,” “Alibaba Super Green Peas Original Flavor,” “Sinkha Thiy Hawthorn Flakes,” “Unbranded Corn Coffee with Mangosteen & Malunggay,” “Tomoguchi California Raisins,” “Sugarlandia Galletas,” “Lara’s Roasted Peanut Butter Spread–No Sugar,” “Lara’s Roasted Peanut Butter,” “Dr. Chanca Piedra Stone Breaker–Food Supplement No Approved Therapeutic Claims,” “Lucky Misua Misua Pang-Gisado,” “Lickerish Orange Choco De Leche,” “Tiwi Mango Pudding w/ Nata De Coco Mango Flavored Jelly,” “Klu Spices Trading and General Merchandise Ground Black Pepper,” “Klu Spices Trading and General Merchandise Lily Flower/Banana Blossom,” “Klu Spices Trading and General Merchandise Star Anis,” and “Banica Dried Fish Tocino.”
The FDA verified through online monitoring or post-marketing surveillance that these food products are “not registered” and that no corresponding Certificate of Product Registration (CPR) has been issued.
Under Republic Act No. 9711, otherwise known as the "Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009," the agency reiterated that the manufacture, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, transfer, non-consumer use, promotion, advertising, or sponsorship of health products without the proper authorization is prohibited.
Since these food products did not undergo an evaluation process, the FDA said it cannot ensure its quality and safety.
Meanwhile, the FDA warned all concerned establishments not to distribute, advertise, or sell these "violative food products" until they obtain the required Product Notification Certificate. (Zekinah Elize Espina)
