According to a list released by the Holy See, the three Filipino Church leaders  who will attend the Synod on Synodality at the Vatican include CBCP president Kalookan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David, CBCP vice president Pasig Bishop Mylo Hubert Vergara and Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula. Filipino Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, will also be part of the gathering. The list was released by the Vatican three months before the scheduled assembly of Church leaders who will be meeting on pertinent matters affecting the local churches around the world. The 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, commonly referred to as the synod on synodality is an upcoming  synod of bishops of the Catholic Church which will be held in October and has as its theme "For a synodal Church: communion, participation and mission.” The Vatican has also included the laity in the synod as members who will be given the opportunity to vote in the final document that will be released at the end of the gathering . The Vatican also announced the 124 delegates chosen by the Pontiff that included Cardinal Wilton Gregory of Washington, D.C., Archbishop Paul Etienne of Seattle, Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston, and Cardinal Robert McElroy of San Diego. Some 50 women are also expected to attend the event. The General Secretariat of the Synod has readied a 60-page document ‘Instrumentum Laboris’ as guide for the two-part general assembly at the Vatican. Bishop David earlier called on the faithful to pray for the success of the synod. The CBCP president requested the faithful for prayers as they gather for the Synod on Synodality in October 2023 and October 2024. In his homily for the Marian Moment of Prayer for the Synod on Synodality at the International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo on May 31, Bishop David called on the faithful to pray for all the bishops convening as a synod that it would become “a new Pentecost for the Universal Church”. “We pray, therefore, that the coming synod may become an opportunity for genuine renewal among our laity, religious and ordained ministers, so that we can grow together in greater synodality into a more participatory Church,” Bishop David said.
