In an interview on Friday evening over RPN DXKS Surigao, Surigao City police chief Police Lt. Col. Diomedes Cuadra Jr. identified the suspect as Alejandro Ultado Cortes, 20, a resident of Basilisa, Dinagat Islands.

Residents of Surigao City were stunned upon hearing the news of the discovery of three bodies inside a house in Sitio Looc, Barangay Luna, Surigao City on Friday afternoon.

The fatalities were identified as Mylene Golloso Virgen, 40, and her two children John David, 13, and Mary Elizabeth, 9.

“The other daughter of Mylene Virgen who survived the incident identified the suspect as the person who committed the crime,” Cuadra said.

He added that the surviving daughter, whose name is being concealed, is in a relationship with the suspect who was enraged after hearing that the mother was against their affair as she is still a minor.

The daughter narrated that she and the suspect arrived at their residence in Sitio Looc on Thursday evening.

She said the suspect grabbed a bolo and hacked to death her mother and the two children who were inside the house.

The daughter was able to flee from their house and hide in a comfort room at the nearby Gawad Kalinga center in their community.

“The suspect is now under our custody as we are preparing for the filing of criminal charges against him through inquest proceedings,” Cuadra said.

He added that the suspect would be facing a murder case for the killing of the mother and two counts of murder in relation to Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act for the death of the two minors.
