Several PH areas continue to record 'dangerous' heat indices

Data from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, May 22, showed that twenty-eight monitoring stations across the country recorded heat indices that were considered "dangerous." Aparri, Cagayan, and Infanta, Quezon had the highest daily heat indices on Monday, both at 46°C. PAGASA defines the heat index as the measurement of how hot it feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature. The weather bureau pointed out that a heat index ranging from 42°C to 51°C indicates impending “danger,” as “heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely,” and “heat stroke is probable with continued activity.” (PAGASA)
The monitoring stations that recorded “dangerous” heat indices on Monday were: Aparri, Cagayan (46°C) Infanta, Quezon (46°C) Ambulong, Tanauan, Batangas (45°C) Baler, Aurora (45°C) Catarman, Northern Samar (45°C) Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte (44°C) Legazpi City, Albay (44°C) Sangley Point, Cavite (44°C) Tuguegarao City, Cagayan (44°C) Calayan, Cagayan (43°C) Casiguran, Aurora (43°C) Dagupan City, Pangasinan (43°C) Iba, Zambales (43°C) San Jose, Occidental Mindoro (43°C) Catbalogan, Western Samar (42°C) Central Luzon State University, Muñoz, Nueva Ecija (42°C) Daet, Camarines Norte (42°C) Dauis, Bohol (42°C) Guiuan, Eastern Samar (42°C) Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (42°C) Itbayat, Batanes (42°C) Juban, Sorsogon (42°C) Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (42°C) Masbate City, Masbate (42°C) Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Pasay City (42°C) Roxas City, Capiz (42°C) Virac, Catanduanes (42°C) Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur (42°C) PAGASA recorded the highest heat index in the country so far this year on May 12 in Legazpi City, Albay at 50°C.
