DAVAO CITY – First congressional district Rep. Paolo Duterte has offered a P1-million cash reward to any individual who can provide information leading to the arrest of the suspect in the killing of an architect whose body was found in a banana plantation in Barangay Dacudao in Calinan District here last week.

Police had earlier confirmed that the 28-year-old victim, Vlanche Marie Bragas, a resident of Megaville here, was sexually assaulted before she was murdered by still unidentified suspects. Her cadaver was discovered at around 8 a.m. on May 17 following reports from concerned citizens.

Duterte, saddened by the news, expressed his deepest condolences and sympathy to the Bragas family. He said the victim, just like any other resident here, was doing the best she can every day for a living and her future. “Si Miss Vlanche Marie Bragas usa ka ordinaryong Dabawenyo nga adlaw adlaw nakig bisug alang sa kaugmaon niya ug sa iyang pamilya. Ako uban sa pamilya ni Miss Bragas nasubo gayud sa nahitabo kaniya (Miss Vlanche Marie Bragas is an ordinary Davaoeña who strives hard every day for her future and her family. I together with the Bragas family mourn her death)," Duterte said. Initial investigation by the Calinan Police Station revealed that the victim's body was found in a "prone position" in an open canal in the plantation owned by a cooperative here. Police retrieved the cadaver covered in banana leaves. Bragas was reported missing at 12:30 a.m. on May 17. She was last seen riding a yellow electric tri-wheeler near Crossing Fausta in Calinan. Police are hunting the suspect behind the gruesome crime. The Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Bragas has been formed by the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) to focus on resolving the case.
