The Parañaque City government received a beyond-compliant rating during the 23rd Gawad Kalasag Seal of Excellence for Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (DRRMO) and Councils.
Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez said the awarding ceremony was held at the Manila Hotel in Ermita, Manila on Dec. 11 and was received by Dr. Teodoro B. Gonzalez Jr., head of the city DRRMO.
Olivarez said that aside from the Gawad Kalasag Seal, the city government was also a finalist for the Government Emergency Management and Council (GEMS) category by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
He said that Gawad KALASAG (Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan) is an annual recognition for local governments and agencies for exemplifying the power of integration, partnership, and collaboration in the organization’s exceptional practices on readiness, response, and emergency management, which are notable contributions to the national effort to build safer, adaptive, and disaster-resilient Filipino communities.
