Over 5,000 students, teachers benefit from WASH project, Manila Water says
The Manila Water Foundation (MWF) spearheaded multiple collaborative programs to implement water access, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) project in several provinces across the country.
In a statement, the MWF said almost 5,000 students, teachers, and staff benefitted from the hygiene kits, refrigerated drinking fountains, and the conduct of a hygiene education session at the Cesar M. Cabahug Elementary School and at the Basak Elementary School in Mandaue City, Cebu.
In Bulacan, the MWF and the Bulakan Water inaugurated a multi-faucet hygiene facility at Sta. Ana Elementary School in Bulakan town which benefitted over 300 teachers and students.
“Manila Water Foundation also led a hygiene education session for students to keep them safe from communicable diseases, embedding the lifelong habit of proper hand washing. Hygiene supplies and info-education materials were also handed over to the school.” Manila Water stated.
All these initiatives are made in support of the WASH in Schools or WinS program of the Department of Education under the Lingap Eskwela program of MWF.
In Pangasinan, Manila Water partnered with Calasiao Water to provide subsidized new water service connections (NWSC) for 132 low-income families.
Beneficiaries were residents of Barangays Macabito, Doyong, Nagsaing, Buenlag, Ambuetel, Songkoy, Mancup, Longos, Dinalaoan, Lumbang, Nalsian, San Miguel, Malabago, Poblacion West, and San Vicente.
“Under the Ahon Tubig program for Calasiao beneficiaries, MWF will shoulder 65% of the application fee for new water service connections to Calasiao Water. From P5,700, the beneficiaries will only be required to pay P2,000 for the application fee and installation.” Manila Water added. (Nicole Magmanlac)
