This may not be the first that Dapitan facilitated and held an auto moto show competition but this the grandest so far,” said Apple Marie Agolong, Dapitan tourism officer. Jalosjos, a car enthusiast, was among those who participated in the classic cars exhibit. It was the first time that Jalosjos sent his collection of vintage cars to an exhibit. Among those displayed during the exhibit were Jalosjos’s vintage Volkswagen, Land Rover, and Porsche sports car. “The aim of the activity was also to give a platform to all the owners of cars, SUVs, big bikes, to show off and take pride in having those collections. Being a collector is not easy. It takes money, time, and effort to really restore old cars back into good condition,” said Agolong. Agolong said the auto show aims to maintain Dapitan’s status as the most-visited place “not just in the province but also in the region.” Declared winner in the sports car category was Taipen Huang of Dipolog City followed by Al Rashid Baruang (first runner-up) and Supun Chamikara (second runner-up). Demz Alfaro won the sedan category while EJ Bacho and Jose Rotea Polanco emerged as first and second runners-up, respectively. In the SUV/pick-up/4x2/4x4 category, Mike Jeffret Riconalla was declared winner followed by Juhaer Marmay and Ferod Gonzales. Winning the classic bike category was Lutz Gustaff Mercado followed by Asy Obordo. The big bike category was won by Kenneth Alvar with Carl Anthony Costillas and John Rey Acaylar finishing first and second runners-up, respectively. Dale Gonzales won the underbone category while Aljon Acopiado topped the scooter category. The auto show was held simultaneously with a band competition, said Agolong. Winning the band competition was Black Pearl Band followed by Acoustic Vibe, Street Lights Band, Acoustic Rhyme, and Main Street Band. Taking home consolation prizes were the Undecided Band and The Suliman Band. “It was a two-in-one night. All events in Dapitan are offered to different interests of the people. We had an auto show then we had duathlon, swimming, triathlon, arnis, and other sports activities. We’re doing it to maintain our spot as the most-visited place not just in the province but also in the entire region,” Agolong said. Dapitan was awarded as the most improved local government unit in tourism and most-visited place in the region in 2022. “We need to offer activities to entice people to come and visit the city, a place where tourism is vibrant and a place where every member of the family has something to be interested in,” Agolong said.
