Maxicare Healthcare Corporation (MHC), the leading healthcare provider, shared on Monday, Nov. 6, its best practices towards creating a just and sustainable workplace including creating an openly-communicative environment, responding to business challenges with agility, and ensuring clear performance measures, among others.

During the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP)’s 57th Members General Meeting held via Zoom, Chief Human Resources Officer Joe Meritto P. Buot emphasized Maxicare's five most valuable practices in fostering a sustainable workplace.

Buot said that through its inspiring fundamental ambition, purpose and values; business agility; performance culture; recognition culture; and open communication, Maxicare is able to foster collaboration among its employees.

One of its notable practices is creating an environment where the organization's fundamental belief system in terms of ambition, purpose, and values are openly shared and communicated to all employees.

“We also include our service providers and outsourced partners that were able to cultivate mindsets that share the meaning and relevance of our organizational fundamentals,” he said.

Another emphasized practice was Maxicare’s agility in responding to business challenges as it lives up to the pressures of a competitive healthcare industry.

“We are in the midst of a global talent shortage when it comes to the industry as well as medical inflation – the whole landscape has changed basically from the time we got out of the pandemic,” he said.

Apart from being agile, Buot emphazised the importance of redesigning their ways of working, and embracing innovation either thorough process improvement or automation.

“We do not automate solely for the purpose of automating, but we automate for the purpose of delivering exceptional customer service,” he added.

Additionally, Buot said that their company is also organizing and then re-organizing fast and quick based on business demands.

“There’s always a creation of agile and multi-functional teams to create multi-skilled employees in the organization… [as Maxicare] believes in the power of continuous development, continuous skilling up for our people,” he said.

Maxicare also implements systems to ensure solid data governance and data management structure while working “with so much information on [their] clients and patients as well.”

Further, Buot stressed the importance of clearly defining and communicating key performance areas (KRAs), aligning them with Maxicare’s organizational goals, automating performance management processes, establishing governance, and providing performance coaching.

The company also offers various rewards and recognition programs, including promotions, performance and variable pay programs, project management and innovation awards, Values in Person (VIP) recognition, advancement planning for high potential candidates, and team events.

Similarly, Maxicare is establishing an avenue for open and trusting communication, involving growth plans and short and long-term direction, challenges, even financial performance; and defining cadence and discipline of country-wide company updates session with senior leaders’ presence in each site or provincial offices.

It is also promoting labor-management cooperation and labor relations as well as employee sessions with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and Chief Human Resources Officer.

Maxicare aims to become the Philippines' most trusted healthcare provider, delivering a superior patient experience through a comprehensive network of solutions and touchpoints.

It is committed to enhance people's quality of life through relevant healthcare solutions, fostering values such as malasakit, customer centricity, self-leadership, empowerment, accountability, innovation, agility, and collaboration.

Maxicare was awarded last June as the 2023 KAPATID Awards Grand Winner by ECOP, recognizing its outstanding performance in multiple dimensions of business conduct and employee welfare.

ECOP’s 57th Members General Meeting highlighted three awardees of its KAPATID Awards, including Union Bank Philippines, Asian Transmission Corporation, and Maxicare, which shared their best practices in promoting a just and sustainable workplace environment.

The KAPATID Awards, established in 1995 by the ECOP, recognize companies for their good business practices in industrial relations, quality, productivity, innovation, responsible conduct, and business resilience, promoting harmonious relationships between management and employees.
