The City of Manila was listed as one of the 20 most popular city destinations in the world this summer, the Department of Tourism, Culture, and Arts of Manila (DTCAM) announced on Friday, July 7. Spanish travel analytics company ForwardKeys ranked Manila as No. 19 on its list of top 20 most popular city destinations for summer 2023. The ForwardKeys ranking was based on their index values, from highest to lowest. Manila had a 34 index value next to Rome that got an index value of 39. Manila went up by eight places this year from 27th place last year. "Their rise is principally explained by the relatively late relaxation of COVID-19 travel restrictions, which triggered a surge in interest,” ForwardKeys stated. Aside from Manila, the other Asian countries that made it to the top 20 were Bangkok, followed by Denpasar, Singapore, Tokyo, and Kuala Lumpur.
