Farmers in Pangasinan set to receive solar-powered irrigation pump
LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – A solar-powered irrigation pump will be turned over in this province to farmers to mitigate the effects of the looming El Niño this year.
The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) are set to turn over a solar-powered irrigation pump to the Calmay-Lebueg Farmers Irrigators Association Inc. in Laoac in June.
NIA-Ilocos Manager Engr. Gaudencio de Vera noted that this project can irrigate 15,500 hectares of farm land and will benefit 21 agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) and five non-ARBs in the municipality.
The almost P4-million project in Barangay Calmay-Lebueg which started in May 2022 is part of the irrigation component of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program implemented hand-in-hand by the DAR and NIA.
Three more solar-powered irrigation pump projects are almost complete in other towns in this province are also set for turnover to farmers.
These are located in Barangay Waig in Malasiqui, Barangay Gonzales in Umingan, and Barangay Malimpin in Dasol.
