Drug abuse prevention info drive launched for Mindanao tribes-DDB

A multi-agency group has set-up a program that provides valuable information, education and communication (IEC) tools that empower Mindanao tribes to further enhance their support to the government’s relentless illegal drug campaign.

Together with the Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB), the Culture Sensitive IEC Materials focusing on Drug Abuse Prevention Education and Advocacy was formally launched in Davao City with the presence of “the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Regional Office XI, the Department of Education- Regional Office XI, the city government of Davao and the Ateneo de Davao University.’’

In a statement, the DDB noted that the materials highlight contents and modules can be used in educating the initial 11 tribes of Mindanao on the legal aspect, medical aspect, current trends of the anti-drug campaign, the approaches that are evidence-informed and effective when it comes to substance and drug use prevention including the context of the national drug education program.

“Chieftains and elders of tribes were also present to lead the launching of the materials which will first be institutionalized in various parts of Mindanao,’’ the DDB added.

DDB Executive Director Earl Saavedra was the keynote speaker during the event.
