Three family members were arrested by members of the Pasay City police who responded to a tip on the alleged illegal drug activities of the suspects on Sunday, May 21.
According to the Southern Police District (SPD), the suspects were identified as Roderick Samonte, 50, a construction worker; his wife, Ma Mercedita, 50, a water refilling station crew member; and their son, Kyster Kurt, 23. Their other son, Kevin Carl, 23 was able to elude arrest.
The SPD said the suspects were arrested inside their house in Saint Rita, Barangay 178, Maricaban, Pasay City.
Col. Froilan Uy, city police chief, said that a duty desk officer of the Maricaban police Sub-Station received a complaint from a concerned citizen regarding the alleged illegal activities of Kevin Carl.
Uy said members of the Maricaban police Sub-Station were immediately dispatched to respond to the complaint. Upon their arrival at the reported location, police claimed that they saw Kevin Carl busily examining the contents of two plastic sachets containing suspected shabu.
When he saw the policemen, Kevin Carl threw a black pouch containing another 10 sachets of shabu and ran inside their house.Â
The city police said the three arrested suspects reportedly prevented the police officers from arresting Kevin Carl, enabling him to escape.Â
During the procedural check, the police found in the possession of Roderick four plastic sachets of shabu, 12 from Kyster Kurt, and two from Mercedita.
Police confiscated a total of 26.5 grams of shabu worth P180,200 and the black pouch.
The suspects were brought to the Maricaban police Sub-Station and later turned over to Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) where they were detained.
Uy said the suspects are facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and Presidential Decree No. 1829 (obstruction of justice).
