A retired general of the Philippine National Police (PNP) died in a fire that broke out in his two-story house in Tandang Sora, Quezon City on Wednesday, May 17.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the body of the retired general, George "Jimmy" Ancheta Jr., 76, was already charred and "beyond recognition" when it was found.

Ancheta was the brother of former QC First District Councilor  Elizabeth Delarmente and uncle of QC Majority Floor Leader Dr. Dorothy "Doray" Delarmente.

In a Facebook post, Doray Delarmente explained that his uncle was not able to get out of the house.

The fire that broke out on William Street in Carmel 3 Subdivision reached the first alarm at around 9:31 p.m. and was extinguished at 10:50 p.m.

The Quezon City Fire District (QCFD) said the fire may have started from a candle that was lit in the bedroom of the victim's deceased son.
