CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Police intercepted 790 reams of imported fake cigarettes worth P711,000 in Mauswagon, Placer, Surigao del Norte, on Thursday, May 18.
Six individuals transporting the contraband onboard a 10-wheel wing van and a motor-tricycle were apprehended.

Police Regional Office-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Pablo G. Labra II lauded the swift efforts of the operating units.
“Charges for violation of Republic Act 8424, known as the Tax Reform Act of 1997, and RA 10643, the Graphic Health Warnings Law, will be filed against the suspects,” Labra said.
“Our operatives have expedited the search for individuals involved in the sale or trading of counterfeit or illicit cigarettes,” he added.
Labra warned retailers and consumers in the Caraga region not to patronize illegal cigarettes.
Contraband was taken to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Surigao del Norte for documentation and proper disposition.
