Marcos said this after he signed this week [Republic Act (RA) No. 11939](https://mb.com.ph/2023/5/18/marcos-signs-law-amending-afp-officers-retirement-age-maximum-tenure) which limits the tour of duty of key AFP officials and adjustment the retirement age of officers from 55 to 57. In an interview with reporters in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, the President said he wanted to avoid a scenario where no more funds would be available from government coffers for their pensions. "Now, we're working hard on making sure that we have a pension plan both for the AFP and for the police," he said. Marcos said these funds could start to shrink in five to six years as the government continues to reevaluate the pension system for the military and police to avert a possible fiscal collapse. "So habang bago pa mangyari ‘yun, inuunahan na natin (We're preempting that). We are designing a better system," he said. In addition, the Chief Executive said he was also developing a housing program for the country's uniformed personnel. "We are also putting together a program for housing for uniformed services.
