The Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) reported that a man fired a handgun and lobbed a grenade in front of the office of the Northern Police District- Drug Enforcement Unit (NPD-DEU) in Barangay 14, Caloocan City on Saturday, May 20.
Gen. Ponce Rogelio Peñones, Northern Police District (NPD) director, said they have already identified the suspect.
According to the police report, the man immediately fled towards Pampano Street after firing his handgun and throwing a hand grenade that exploded in front of the office near the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) office at around 1:45 a.m.
The CCPS Explosive Ordinance Division (EOD) recovered three fired cartridges, a slug, and metallic fragment from the exploded MK-2 hand grenade.
CCPS Chief Col. Ruben Lacuesta said the explosion damaged the front stairs of the police station.
He said that they also found bullet holes in the office’s main door and on the surface of the car parked in front of the office.
Authorities have withheld the identity of the suspect who is now the subject of a manhunt launched by the CCPS.
Investigators are eyeing retaliation against the police anti-illegal drugs campaign as one of the possible motives behind the attack.
No one was reported injured in the incident.
