BURDEUS, Quezon – An alleged copra thief was shot dead for attacking the police on Thursday afternoon, May 18, in Sitio Katubong, Barangay Caniwan, this town.
Police identified the fatality as Randy Velasco, 40, single, and a resident of the area.
Police officers Police Corporals Jeffy Lopez and Bryan Regidor and barangay tanods responded to a complaint of Hervie Azores, a resident, that someone was stealing his copra.
They caught the suspect in the act of stealing copra when they arrived.
Lopez introduced himself as police officer to the suspect and informed him about the complaint of Azores.
However, instead of cooperating, the suspect attacked Lopez with a bolo.
Police shot the suspect in the feet but continued attacking, prompting Lopez to shoot the suspect in the body.
The suspect received first aid and later brought to the rural health center where he was declared dead due to bullet wounds.
