19 PRO-2 cops complete 10-day instructor dev't course sponsored by US DOJ
CAMP Marcelo A. Adduru, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – Nineteen police officers from Region 2 (Cagayan Valley) completed the 10-day Instructor Development Course (IDC) under the International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP) of the United States Department of Justice at the PRO-2 Maringal Center for Excellence here on Friday, May 19.
Programs or courses offered under the ICITAP are anchored on the development of professional and transparent law enforcement institutions that protect human rights, combat corruption, and reduce threat of transnational crime and terrorism.
Attache and program director Juan Bortfeld said they conducted a study and assessment and discovered that one of the gaps in the implementation of various programs of the Philippine National Police is funding. This affected the sustainability of the police organization’s endeavors.
Bortfeld said this prompted them to sponsor much-needed programs of the PNP to help its servicemen be equipped with knowledge.
He assured that they will sponsor more programs for police officers in Region 2 to enable them to become more competent and effective law enforcers.
Police Brig. Gen. Percival A. Rumbaoa, PRO-2 director, was guest of honor and speaker during the closing ceremony of the ten-day IDC that started on May 8.
Rumbaoa thanked US DOJ for allowing the men and women of PRO-2 to become beneficiaries of the ICITAP.
“Being the father of the ‘Valley’ cops, I am aware that much work needs to be done to enhance the skills and knowledge of the Region 2 police force. As such, I implore you to treat this IDC as an important step in achieving the PNP's quality policy and core principles, which will identify capacity for public service and unite to produce effective police officers in the Cagayan Valley through professionalism, public management, and lofty aspirations,” he said.
