The Bren Esports-backed Sibol MLBB national team opened its bid for a spot in the 15th IESF World Esports Championship in Iasi, Romania in August with a bang, stamping its class over Myanmar in the Southeast Asian qualifier on Monday, May 1.
Sibol completed a 2-0 sweep of the Myanmar national team which fielded the core players of the pro team Burmese Ghoul. Marco “Super Marco” Requitano led the way for the Filipinos with impressive performances on signature picks Beatrix and Karrie in the two game sweep. The Bren Esports rising star collected a 14-1-3 line on the Beatrix to Sibol shrug off some resistance from the Burmese team. After taking the lead in the early going of the contest, Myanmar recovered with a Lord take, but Sibol, with the help of Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo’s flicker-Tyrant Revenge play, countered the siege to score a four-man wipe. There was no looking back for Sibol from there as Super Marco put on the finishing touches in the final clash after securing a double kill for another wipeout. Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel orchestrated the attack on his midlane Yve with a 0-1-15 line while Owgwen finished with a 2-2-12 on the Khufra. Riding the momentum of the Game 1 win, Marco finished with a 7-1-3 line on the Karrie while Michael “Kyletzy” Sayson added a 3-0-9 on the Lancelot pick to anchor a 16-6 victory in Game 2 to close out the series. Sibol is taking on the representatives of Vietnam next where a win would formally clinch them a spot to the Asia + Oceania qualifier in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in July. The SEA representatives will then take on Indonesia, the defending champions of the MLBB event in the WE championships along with the representatives from Central, West, East and South Asia for the five slots to the Iasi 2023.
