A happy Cinco de Drinko at Manila House
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Tasting Club Manila and the Embassy of Mexico in BGC

Blooming flowers, mariachi bands, Mexican food, and colorful parties—these are some of the things that come to mind when Cinco de Mayo is discussed. But Cinco de Mayo is nacho ordinary holiday…
The occasion also goes by the name “Battle of Puebla Day,” as it commemorates the victory of Mexico over France at a skirmish in the city formerly known as Puebla de Zaragoza in 1862. Today, Cinco de Mayo, or the “fifth of May” for the Spanish-impaired, holds great cultural significance to the North American nation and its allies. A common misconception about the event is that it is equivalent to Mexican Independence Day, but it only marks a single battle.
In the US and places with large Mexican-American populations, Cinco de Mayo is widely observed, even in the Philippines. Like its Irish cousin, Saint Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo is a cultural and culinary affair you should at least experience once in your lifetime, highlighted by a rave or two.
This year, the Tasting Club in partnership with the Embassy of Mexico in the Philippines and Manila House will hold one of the biggest celebrations of the annual Mexican fete. An organization all about the appreciation of alcohol, the Tasting Club, invites everyone to a fiesta al fresco this May 6, Saturday, at the Avenue Deck of Manila House from 6 p.m. onward. The Tasting Club is an “epicurean destination for gourmet food, fine wines, craft spirits, and cocktails,” founded by couple Kevin and Adrienne Charuel, a Frenchman and a Filipina respectively. It is a passion project that brings together F&B experts in a bid to elevate the Philippine dining scene. For this exciting fiesta, visitors may enjoy toothsome traditional Mexican food prepared by BGC’s private membership club Manila House, such as chicken fajitas, beef tacos, cheese quesadillas, elote, nachos, salsa, guacamole, and churros with chocolate dip. Pure agave classic margaritas and tequila shots will be offered from Codigo Blanco while a free tasting of premium tequilas and mezcal also takes place courtesy of Grand Cru. Those who prefer beer, on the other hand, may indulge in refreshing Mexican Corona. For entertainment, local band Mariachi Emmanuel will perform live until 9 p.m., after which a DJ will mix beats to liven the party.
