Marcos: Numerous obligations could be why Duterte resigned from Lakas-CMD
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. believes that [Vice President Sara Duterte resigned](https://mb.com.ph/2023/5/19/vp-duterte-resigns-from-lakas-cmd) as a member of the ruling Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD), which she chaired, because she wanted to devote much of her time to her numerous government jobs.

Marcos said this following Duterte's announcement of her irrevocable resignation on Friday, May 19. In an interview with reporters in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, the President said Duterte must have been overwhelmed and decided to resign from Lakas amid all her obligations to the people being the Vice President, Education Secretary, and Vice Chair of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC). "It’s true because kung titignan mo, kung ano ang mga hinaharap niya ay talagang marami talaga (if you'll look at it, she really has a lot on her plate)," Marcos said. "Hindi niya pwede (She can't afford) – to be involved in whatever it is that is going on – she has to concentrate on her job as Secretary for the DepEd and now NTF-ELCAC," he added. "She has too much work to do that she cannot be involved in any – that she cannot allow herself to be distracted. That's the way I read it," he continued. Because of this, President Marcos said he understood why the Vice President had to make the decision. “So, I can understand why sasabihin niya ‘sige ayusin n’yo muna ‘yan, gagawin ko muna itong mga importanteng kailangan kong tapusin (fix that and I'll focus on the more important things),'” Marcos said. Asked to comment on the change of leadership in the House of Representatives, Marcos said that it is just part of the reorganization, recalling that during his two terms as a House member, a reorganization occurred three times. The President earlier [refused to comment](https://mb.com.ph/2023/5/19/marcos-mum-on-seeming-speakership-row) on the seeming power struggle in the House of Representatives. Vice President Duterte tendered her resignation from the party on Friday morning, citing "execrable political power play." Her resignation came following the reorganization of key positions in the House of Representatives where Pampanga Second District Representative Gloria Macapagal- Arroyo, the chairman emeritus of Lakas-CMD, was removed from her post as Senior Deputy Speaker. House Speaker Martin Romualdez, President Marcos' cousin, is the Lakas-CMD president.
