The supply of potable water for Antipolo City and its neighboring areas is expected to increase as Manila Water is set to complete the construction of its P8.2 billion Calawis Water System Project (CWSP) by June 2023. Manila Water, the East Zone concessionaire of Metropolitan Water Works and Sewerage System (MWSS), said the CWSP, located in Barangay Calawis, Antipolo City, is projected to provide additional 80 million liters per day (MLD) of treated water to the 919,784 population in Antipolo City and nearby towns once it becomes fully operational. Manila Water Calawis Treatment Plant The treatment facility in Barangay Calawis, which is sourcing its raw water from the Tayabasan River, has started providing treated water to some areas of the city including the Antipolo Government Center. The Tayabasan River is part of the Upper Marikina Watershed which Manila Water is helping to grow and maintain. The CWSP is composed of the 80 MLD water treatment plant (WTP), pumping stations, reservoirs, and 21 kilometers of primary transmission line. Manila Water said the CWSP’s Project team has ensured that the project complies with all necessary laws and regulations emphasizing the company’s adherence to social and environmental sustainability as assured by its Senior Project Manager Engr. Vince Siat. The CWSP is part of the east zone concessionaire’s Water Supply Masterplan which aims to ensure water security and supply reliability in the East Zone for the next decades while lessening dependence on Angat Dam.
