A female nursing officer in the Korean military is being investigated by authorities after she left her workplace without permission and visited BTS’ Jin in his camp to vaccinate him.  Jin enlisted in the Korean Army on Dec. 13 and is serving as an assistant instructor in the 5th Infantry Division recruit training center in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. According to Korean media outlet Beta News, an informant said on May 18 that the female nursing officer,  who is a lieutenant in her 20s, drove her car for 30 minutes from from the 28th Infantry Division in Gyeongi Province at about 1:30 p.m. in January and went to Jin at the 5th Infantry Division recruit training center.   The nursing officer had a personal relationship with a nursing officer in the 5th Infantry Division recruit training center.  Between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on the same day, the female nursing officer administered a second dose of the vaccine for epidemic hemorrhagic fever, also known as hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome, to Jin in the training center medical room.  The nursing officer returned to her unit and reportedly said, “BTS’ Jin was very sick.”  The news report stated that the female nursing officer left her workplace without permission from her superior.  Under Article 79 of Korea’s Military Criminal Act on unauthorized leave of absence, “A person who temporarily leaves his/her place of service or a designated place without permission or fails to arrive at a designated place by a designated time shall be punished by imprisonment with or without labor for not more than one year or by a fine not exceeding three million won [about $2,260].” The nurse is also suspected of providing large amounts of Tylenol to the 5th Infantry Division recruit training center.   According to the informant, the nurse had that the 5th Infantry Division has a shortage of certain drugs and promised to give large amounts of Tylenol that will come from the 28th Infantry Division.  The informant said, "It must be seen that it is insane to leave the workplace and go to another division to satisfy one's self-interest." The case of unauthorized departure was filed as a civil complaint, and it was revealed that the 28th Infantry Division, 5th Infantry Division, and 5th Corps Military Police conducted a joint investigation last March. However, the military has not taken any action against the female nursing officer until recently. “In the 5th Infantry Division, even if you get BTS Jin’s autograph, you will be punished, but this unauthorized departure must be severely punished,” the informant added.  About the nursing officer, Lt. Col. Seo Jeong-hoon, chief of staff of the 28th Infantry Division, said “Some of the allegations were confirmed through the inspection, and some facts are being denied by the company.” “(Following the investigation by the military police), the Ministry of Justice is investigating, and according to the results, we will deal with and take disciplinary action according to the law and regulations,” he added.  Jin will be discharged from the Army on June 12, 2024.
