7.5 million Filipinos to benefit from targeted cash transfer program — DSWD
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Friday, May 19 that it will immediately facilitate the distribution of P500 assistance to 7.5 million Filipinos, following the release of additional funds for its Targeted Cash Transfer (TCT) program.
On Tuesday, May 16, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced the approval of the Special Allotment Release Order in the amount to P7.6 billion, which will be used by the DSWD to continue the TCT program.
DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian has expressed gratitude to the TCT Inter-Agency Committee, which includes the DSWD, DBM, Department of Finance, and National Economic and Development Authority, for prioritizing budget allocation for the TCT program’s continuous implementation.
According to DSWD Assistant Secretary and Spokesperson Romel M. Lopez, another batch of cash transfers will be distributed to the program’s target Filipino households.
"The DSWD has set mechanisms to implement the TCT program in a timely manner. We hope that through this additional funding, we will be able to help our kababayans for their daily subsistence," Lopez said.
President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. previously directed that the TCT program be continued in order to assist vulnerable and needy citizens who are most in need of government assistance.
Beneficiaries of the TCT program are those who are most affected by the continuing rise in the prices of basic commodities as a result of high inflation.
