Stray Kids' Bang Chan apologizes after talking about K-pop idols with no manners
K-pop boy band Stray Kids’ Bang Chan issued an apology after he talked about fellow artists who had no manners.
“I apologize for the offense caused by the comments I made during a recent live broadcast. I thought about the impact my words and behavior can have on others, and have deeply reflected on myself,” he said.
He added, “I would like to mention that it was not my intention to specify a certain artist, and that my comments had nothing to do with the artist being mentioned currently. I would like to express my deepest apologies to the artist who has been hurt by my careless words. I sincerely apologize.”

“I will be more cautious of what I say in order to ensure this does not happen again. Once again, I sincerely apologize,” he said. During a live broadcast on YouTube on May 14, Bang Chan talked about K-pop idols who did not greet back when he said “hello” to them. He did not name them. This happened during the “Music Bank in Paris,” a live concert of the Korean TV music show “Music Bank,” which was held on April 8 at La Défense Arena Paris. The show featured Stray Kids, ENHYPEN, AB6IX, Mamamoo, The Boyz, IVE and NMIXX. He was asked by a fan about his experience. “‘Music Bank in Paris’ was good, really good. It was fun because we haven’t been to Paris for such a long time. It was really great,” he said and then he talked about manners. “I don’t know if it’s a … I know I myself is a boomer. I think generations are different. I know that as well. I feel like it has come to a point where greeting someone is not considered as basic matters,” he said. He added, “ I'm not like causing people out of anything. It’s just that …I feel like I am thinking too much about it. Cause if you see someone walk by, you say ‘hi.’ But then if they did not reply back, you know, you would be like ‘what.’ Okay. I feel like it has come to a point where this generation is allowed to do that. Just not care.” “There were a few scenarios where that would happen but at first I was like ‘what, this is.’ I was like…okay. But then the more I thought about it maybe just thinking too much about it. Maybe I’m just a boomer. So I was like ‘yeah I guess it could happen.’ Whoever it is, I’m just gonna say ‘hi’ the best I can because we’re here to have fun and greet the people I like and respect,” he said. Bang Chan said, “I’m not gonna say names. But yeah, there are people out there. I mean, I guess it’s a different generation. Probably just have to live with it, right?” “Everyone else I was close to. People that I know. The people that I shared times with. They are all fine. I guess some people that I don’t know. I guess were kinda like that. But that could be the reason why. Because there is no connection. Maybe they could have been shy. They could have been very nervous. Maybe that could be the reason why. In the end, ‘Music Bank in Paris’ was very, very nice.” While Bang Chan did not name the K-pop idol who did not greet him in Paris, a blog pointed out that they could be the members of rookie girl group IVE. This sparked a hot debate between fans of Stray Kids and IVE that prompted Bang Chan to issue an apology. Just like in his YouTube broadcast, he did not name the artist he was apologizing to.
