Southwesterly wind flow to bring isolated rain showers across parts of PH
Several parts of the country may continue to experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the prevalence of the southwesterly surface wind flow, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, May 18.
The southwesterly wind flow may bring partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, particularly in the western part of Luzon, while the rest of the country may continue to experience warm and humid weather with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA advised the public to exercise caution during severe thunderstorms, as these may trigger landslides or flash floods, especially in areas that are vulnerable to these hazards.
Meanwhile, PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said a low pressure area (LPA) was spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
As of Thursday morning, the LPA was estimated 2,200 kilometers east of Mindanao.
Estareja said the conditions are favorable for the LPA to develop into a tropical depression in the next two to four days, but noted that the LPA may not have a direct effect on any part of the country as of the moment.
He added that PAGASA will continue to monitor this weather disturbance, which may enter the PAR by the middle of next week.
However, Estareja noted that, given the long-range forecast, the LPA’s characteristics and direction could still change.
