GENERAL SANTOS CITY – A police intelligence agent was shot dead in Barangay North here on Wednesday night, May 17.
Police Col. Joemar Alexis Yap, city police director, identified the victim as Police Senior Master Sgt. Peterselier Licanto, assigned to the Sarangani Provincial Police Office.
Investigation said Licanto was about to board his car after eating dinner in a restaurant when two motorcycle-riding suspects appeared and fired at him.
The city police condemned the killing of Licanto.
“We condemn the senseless killing of a police officer in the city which was carried out by evildoers,” Yap said.
Yap assured justice to the victim’s family and ordered a manhunt for the arrest of the suspects.
Licanto was the second policeman killed in this city this year.
Police Corporal Razul Alongan, a police intelligence operative assigned to the General Santos Police Station 5, this city, was shot dead inside a restobar in Barangay Fatima on April 20.
Police have arrested the suspected mastermind and gunman in the killing of Alongan.
The gunman, Jengilito Sotto, 30, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Sarangani, was arrested by the South Cotabato Provincial Police Office and General Santos City Police Office during a hot-pursuit operation in Barangay Klinan 6, Polomolok, South Cotabato.
Sotto, a former member of the New People's Army-Guerrilla Front 75, was implicated in the murder of Alongan by Janna Perez, the alleged mastermind who was earlier arrested by the police in Barangay Calumpang here.
Police said Perez had an illicit affair with Alongan who earned her after she learned that he had an affair with another woman.
Perez contracted Sotto to kill Alongan who was set up by the suspects to have a dinner with her before he was killed.
