PERA HUB strengthens partnerships to modernize the Philippine remittance industry

PERA HUB, the retail brand of PETNET, Inc., eyes additional partnerships this year to empower more communities with remittance capabilities and provide access to its global network of partners. The company’s Digital Remittance Platform (DRP)—an aggregated, single Application Programming Interface (API)—has already been integrated in the mobile apps of leading financial institutions like UnionBank and RCBC’s Diskartech. The platform, regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, seamlessly connects businesses with well-known remittance providers like Western Union and Remitly. “We have many ongoing discussions with partners looking to boost their service offerings with remittances,” said Bryan Makasiar, Senior Assistant Vice President for digital business at PERA HUB. “Given the continued growth of remittances and its contribution to the economy, our digital platform will enable multiple options for families of Overseas Filipino Workers to claim remittances.” PERA HUB President and CEO Ian Ocampo recently highlighted the importance of providing OFWs with convenience through a wealth of options in remittance—especially as the money they send back home constitute about 9.3% of the country’s GDP, according to the World Bank. “This digital thrust has allowed us to prioritize financial inclusion that accommodates the growth in remittances, as well as strengthen our digital network and continue to provide not only remittance but also other relevant financial services in our counters and channels.,” he said in a statement. Doubling down on collaboration, the company looks to forge long-lasting partnerships, firm up more digital wallets, communities, and electronic money issuers (EMI) with the DRP. “Building on the solid foundation we have established with numerous partners throughout the decades and the thousands of locations we have nationwide, PERA HUB is making it simpler for other remittance providers and fintechs to connect with each other through a cost-efficient and easy-to-integrate solution: the DRP. Moreover, there are also opportunities to enable these partners further by servicing their foreign exchange requirements,” Ocampo explained. PERA HUB, which itself started with a brick and mortar setup over 25 years ago, has since expanded to over 3,000 locations nationwide which are described as one-stop hubs for remittance and financial services. Fueled by innovation and continuous drive to make money matters convenient, the company developed the Digital Remittance Platform. For its “technological revolution and digital transformation,” it was recognized at the recent Asian Technology Excellence Awards, bagging the Philippines Technology Excellence Award for Fintech–Remittance.
