P101-M rehab of Buntun Bridge in Cagayan underway

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – The rehabilitation of the oldest bridge in Cagayan Valley, the Buntun Bridge, has started.

The improvement of the structure will guarantee the safety and convenience of residents and travelers going to and from Tuguegarao City proper.

The Department of Public Works and Highways-Cagayan Third District Engineering Office (DPWH-CTDEO) said this will maintain the structural integrity of the  bridge.

District Engineer Mariano B. Malupeng said that the rehabilitation work includes the repair of truss connections, strengthening of buckled diagonal truss members, carbon fiber plate and carbon fiber sheet bonding to the deck slab, repainting of bridge steel members, and installation of solar studs.

The  project is worth P101.3 million, funded by the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2022.

The Buntun Bridge serves as the gateway to the provincial capital of Cagayan, Tuguegarao City, and links to the municipalities of Cagayan and Apayao in the second and third districts.

The  bridge also offers an unobstructed, picturesque view of the Cagayan River, which is the widest and longest river in the country.
