Palm Concepcion Power Corp. (PCPC), the operator of a 135-megawatt (135-MW) coal-fired power plant in Concepcion town, has inked a deal with a Chinese firm to construct a 5.57-megawatt solar farm. The P260-million project will be built by the China Energy Engineering Group Northeast No. 1 Electric Power Construction Co. Ltd. (NEPC), an affiliate of China Energy Engineering Corp. The solar farm will be built within the coal-fired power plant complex in Barangay Nipa. “The project is targeted for completion by the fourth quarter of 2023,” said PCPC President and CEO Nicandro Fucoy. The solar farm project is one of the green initiatives of Juxtapose Ergo Consultus Inc. (JECI), the management company of PCPC that seeks to expand its portfolio to renewable energy. The solar farm materialized came after the Iloilo provincial government inked a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Energy (DOE) for the Development of Renewable Energy Applications Mainstreaming and Market Sustainability (DREAMS) project in 2020. The DREAMS project of DOE, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Global Environment Facility (GEF) in Iloilo aimed to tap renewable energy sources in the northern towns of Ajuy, Carles, and Concepcion.
